Opportunities for Spring 2021
Join the Hofstra Law Pro Se Legal Assistance Program this upcoming Spring semester. The Program provides no-cost limited scope legal assistance to non-incarcerated pro se litigants who have filed, or intend to file, a civil case in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, Central Islip courthouse. Hofstra Law students assist in providing limited scope legal assistance to pro se litigants on-site at the Program’s office in the Central Islip federal courthouse, or remotely via Google Meet if the onsite office is closed, which may involve interviewing litigants, issue spotting, researching federal legal issues, and drafting pleadings, briefs, or discovery.
The Program is open as an Externship to 2L and 3L students, and for students in the summer after 1L, for 3 or 4 externship credits.
The Program is also open to second semester 1L students and upper level students as a non-credit opportunity to receive pro bono hours.
Application are available.
